Friday the 13th is so iconic that when it hits Friday the 13th everyone celebrates this film. Not even the famous Freddy Kruger (Nightmare on Elm street) has that type of hype under its brand. When you think of a famous slashes Michael Myers, Freddy Kruger, and Jason Voorhees some can make an argument for Ghostface or Leatherface too.
It sucks that I was not alive to watch Friday the 13th in theaters. It would have been a cinematic experience from the beautifully yet terrifying sound mixing, amazing score by Harry Manfredini, and amazing moments.
On this day in age, Friday the 13th is outdated in terms of horror techniques. The tropes that are in Friday the 13th are not really that accepted by a lot of horror fans now a days. But at the time I can imagine why so many people love this franchise.
If we were to get an updated version of Friday the 13th just like we did with Halloween, I wouldn’t be mad. If anything, I would be excited to see how they would bring back Jason. Maybe if Mike Flanagan, we’re up for the challenge.
For most people, Friday the 13th would be considered outdated, but I still like this film and watch it every year around October. The entertainment value for me is 9.5/10. Critically it will be at 7.7/10 because it doesn’t hold up as much storywise.
