31 Days of Horror: Jordan Peele’s ‘Us’ Review

Jordan Peele has been killing in the comedy game with his skits with Keegan-Michael Key and directed his first film with Get Out, which is one of the best horror movies in 2017 or the past decade for that matter. So, with no surprise when it was announced that Jordan Peele would direct another film, everyone was excited.

But the excitement was not just with Jordan Peele but Lupita Nyong’o and Winston Duke, who were both in the biggest blockbuster of 2018, Black Panther. And because of that, everyone wanted to see US, and did it deliver? For me, it did have, but for a couple of people, they thought they were going to get something a bit better.

When watching US and Get Out, many people argue that these two films are not a horror movies because it was not scary enough. But I always argued that they are Horror films because of the subject matter those two films tackled.

Being a black man in a middle of nowhere with a bunch of white people is terrifying, and with US, figuring out that there might be another you in this world can be frightening as well. Just because they are no jump scares every thirty-second does not mean it is not a horror movie.

The teamwork in this movie was phenomenal, from the leader, Jordan Peele, to the composer, Michael Abels, cinematographer, Mike Gioulakis, and the cast was perfect. The story felt original, which is great since a lot of people tend to think that there is no originality in Hollywood.

I only have watched this movie three times since it’s been out, which is not bad, but because of that, the entertainment value is 8.5/10. If I were to critique it, it will be around 8.5/10 as well. Even though I love this movie more than most, I will acknowledge that it does get a little convoluted throughout the film.
