‘Adventure Time: Distant Lands’ Blu-Ray Review – A Joyous And Emotional Reunion With Your Favorite Characters

BMO – follows the lovable little robot from Adventure Time. When there’s a deadly space emergency in the farthest reaches of the galaxy, there’s only one hero to call, and it’s probably not BMO. Except that this time it is! Obsidian – features Marceline & Princess Bubblegum as they journey to the imposing, beautiful Glass Kingdom—and deep into their tumultuous past—to prevent an earthshaking catastrophe. Together Again – brings best buds Finn and Jake together again to rediscover their brotherly bond and embark on the most important adventure of their lives. Wizard City – follows Peppermint Butler, starting over at the beginning, as just another inexperienced Wizard School student. When mysterious events at the campus cast suspicion on Pep, and his checkered past, can he master the mystic arts in time to prove his innocence?

Video Quality

Adventure Time: Distant Lands comes to Blu-Ray with a vibrant transfer that largely looks quite excellent. Colors are bright and bold throughout these four stories with some excellent nuance from episode to episode due to the adventures on deck. This is an immaculately clear presentation free of any dirt or debris. Fine lines and details are crisp and maintained well without any bleeding. There does not appear to be any issues with banding. Adventure Time maintains its visual style and sharp presentation for this latest release, which looks great on Blu-Ray. Now let’s get the remaining seasons on Blu-Ray, as well!

Audio Quality

The Blu-Ray comes with an appropriately lively DTS-HD 5.1 Master Audio soundtrack. Dialogue is given priority in the track with a crisp, clear presentation in the center speaker that subtly creeps into surrounds during moments where different environments are being engaged. Music is incredibly immersive with stings accentuating certain scenes in the rear channels. Sound effects from various creative origins and other kinetic moments provide a nice punch in the low end that is appreciated. The show employs a good use of environmental effects that are directionally accurate within the mix. All in all, this is an excellent audio presentation that suits the show well. There are English SDH and French subtitles for those who need them.

Final Thoughts

Adventure Time: Distant Lands is a truly lovely return to this world after the immensely emotional series finale. The ways in which the creative team works to provide a purpose for this limited series beyond fan-service shows the reverence they have for the material. While the series was fine without this coda, fans will really love all the little nuggets they receive from spending time in this world again. Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has released this collection on Blu-Ray with a terrific A/V presentation but nothing in the way of special features. Fans of the series should be pleased with the presentation. Highly Recommended

Adventure Time: Distant Lands is available to purchase on Blu-Ray and DVD.
