AEW Champion Kenny Omega Proposes Huge Tag Team Match With New Japan Star

Jon Moxley joined forces with PAC and Rey Fénix in the main event of AEW Dynamite on February 3. This edition of the show, entitled Beach Break, featured the trio in a huge six-man tag team match against AEW World champion Kenny Omega and The Good Brothers.

It was a hard fought match from start to finish and in the end, Omega’s team emerged victorious. However, it’s what happened after the bout that has everyone talking. New Japan Pro Wrestling star and Bullet Club member KENTA slid into the ring and blindsided Jon Moxley, laying out the former AEW world champion with the Go 2 Sleep. But the story does not end there.

Bullet Club For Life?

AEW’s cameras caught up with Omega and KENTA in the parking lot following Dynamite. Many fans likely believed that the two men were working together behind the scenes and fully expected to see proof of that in the video clip. But when Omega, a former Bullet Club leader, offered the “Too Sweet” salute, KENTA immediately rejected him.

In a somewhat surprising moment, KENTA made it clear he wanted nothing to do with Kenny, but the champ was undeterred. Speaking into the camera, Omega dressed AEW owner Tony Khan and asked for a tag team match pitting him and KENTA against Moxley and Lance Archer.

Archer made his presence known in the main event as well, as he has formed something of an alliance with PAC, Fénix and Pentagon Jr, also known as Death Triangle. Moxley’s involvement in this angle however, goes much deeper than any alliance.

Day of Reckoning

Mox is the current IWGP United States champion and has been unable to defend the title since the COVID pandemic struck in 2020. His last title defense took place nearly one year ago in Osaka, against Minoru Suzuki.

But KENTA won the right to challenge for the U.S. Championship in August of 2020 when he won the New Japan USA Cup Tournament. Since that time, KENTA has pursued Moxley on social media and the champ remained silent.

That changed on January 30 when Jon attacked KENTA on an episode of NJPW Strong. Mox made it clear that he was ready for a fight and KENTA answered responded in kind on February 3.

A United States Championship match between the two men is of course inevitable and an announcement is surely coming soon. The possible tag team match that Kenny Omega wants will also surely happen as well.
