After ‘Aquaman’ Success, DC Not Locked In On Shared Universes

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”13752″ img_size=”1000×500″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]When your latest stand alone picture has grossed over a billion dollars and still climbing, it can make you rethink your strategies a bit. That is the case with DC with the monumental box office numbers for Aquaman.

While it was thought that DC would try to keep a unified Universe for their heroes, much like Marvel has had success in doing, the overwhelming reaction to Aquaman has made them think that stand alone, individual stories is the way to go at this time. This was intimated by a recent discussion Toby Emmerich, chairman of Warner Bros. Pictures Group has with the Hollywood Reporter.

We are far less focused on a shared universe. We take it one movie at a time. Each movie is its own equation and own creative entity.

It is certainly not surprising how loudly a billion dollar box office can speak to a studio about their future direction. With the impending Shazam! and Wonder Woman 1984 on the horizon. This may be the way DC does business for the foreseeable future.

Do you agree with Emmerich’s stance on a shared universe for the DC characters? Share your thoughts  with us at GVNation.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
