‘Agents of SHIELD’ Actor Darren Barnet Talks About His Time with Patton Oswalt

Now that Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has moved on to the 1950’s and beyond, actor Darren Barnet’s job is done. But for the first couple of episodes, his character of “Freddy” Wilfred Malik was on the teams radar. They mainly wanted to protect him. And they were not the only one. Patton Oswalt’s Ernest Hazard Koenig also looked after the kid. They ended up saving him but have already regretted it.

Darren Barnet

As for Barnet, he recently talked with Comicbook.Com about his time on the show and his respect for Patton Oswalt.

It is one of the most well-oiled machines I’ve ever seen. I was welcomed so warmly by every single person. That’s what made it so enjoyable. I was eating lunch every day with Chloe Bennett and Jeff Ward.  Ward and Henry [Simmons] and I were consistently just roasting each other, acting like a band of brothers, making fun of each other and cracking jokes. And it was a blast the whole time.

[As for Patton Oswalt] That was amazing… He, at the end, when I shoot him and he says, ‘You just jumped off a building, Freddy.’ He ad-libbed that line. He, if I remember correctly, he put that line in to connect it with how my father jumped off a ledge. He’s brilliant at what he does. And I held him in such high esteem already from what I’ve seen him in throughout the years, and it was amazing.

Malik Grows Up

Now that it’s the 1950’s, Malik is now an adult. He’s become the man the team knew he would be, much to their regret. But while Daisy wanted to take him out, it was decided to leave the past alone. We’ll see in the remaining episodes if it comes back to haunt them.
