Awkwafina and Karen Gillan will reteam up for the upcoming action-comedy package Shelly. Which, was acquired by Amazon Studios. Jude Weng will direct the script written by Michael Doneger and Liz Storm. The movie will be produced by Ian Bryce Productions.
The movie takes place ten years after an embarrassing prom prank run Shelly Wheeler (Awkwafina) out of town. The experience makes her so hardened that she becomes a cold hit-woman. In the film, at some point; she learns her next target is her former high school bully. Played by Gillan – Dianna Park. Things get complicated when Dianna befriends Shelly. Shelly then finds herself a part of the “cool crowd” and ends up protecting her own tormentor after another hit crew is hired to kill both of them. It’s being described as “Mean Girls meets Barry”.
