American Gods Actor Ian McShane Gives An Update On ‘John Wick Chapter 4’

Over the course of American Gods season three, I’ve been fortunate enough to speak with many of the actors of the show. I’ve spoken to Omid Abtahi, Eric Johnson, Ricky Whittle, Bruce Langley, Yetide Badaki, and Ashley Reyes. I’ve enjoyed every single interview. Each just as great as the rest. I had thought that I had spoken to everyone I could – until the American Gods press team offered me Ian McShane.

How could I not talk to McShane? Not only does he headline American Gods, but he was one of the big characters in Deadwood, and a pivotal figure in the John Wick movie franchise. While my audio interview with McShane centered mostly around his work as Mr. Wednesday in the American Gods series, I had to ask him about John Wick.

What’s the Update With John Wick 4?

For those who don’t know, John Wick is an action franchise starring Keanu Reeves. So, before I wrapped up my interview with McShane, I had to ask him about John Wick 4. To which he responded:

Oh, um, I spoke to, Keanu. I spoke to him the other day. I spoke to the director and they’re hoping, I mean, they’re hoping now that writing the script now for, uh, Chad told me probably around about maybe like summertime, July, I mean, they’re not going to do four and five again, which is what they announced two years. They were going to do four and five together, you know, like do a four and five, which they often do.

McShane Continued:

That’s just, that’s just a sort of stake, a place in the cinema, you know, sort of thing in two years time that’s, that’s when John Wick’s gonna come out. Um, so no, they’ll be doing four probably, but I think, you know, maybe July, August, and I think he’s going to be mostly in Europe, but they’re still working on the script. I mean, again, there’s a show which they can have a lot of options for. How do they work that one out, you know, with Mr. Winston and John Wick.

McShane then talked about [with Winston] how that is another character he plays that you aren’t sure what his intentions are. I asked him if these were characters he enjoyed playing, to which he responded:

Oh, absolutely. I think so. Yeah. Little enigmatic quality going on there. Yeah. Well, you know, Winston, I was, uh, I always thought Winston. I mean, the thing is, you know, when Winston shot John Wick, you go, well. Yeah, but he shot him with what this called is a gentleman’s gun. And you know, and I’m sure that he shot him deliberately, so he wouldn’t kill him. Who knows? And I don’t think Winston hates John Wick. I don’t think so. I don’t think so.

Please make sure you check out the interview in its entirety. McShane and I spoke plenty about his character in American Gods. And it’s great to have an update on John Wick 4.
