American Gods Season Three Episode Eight: A Fun and Emotionally Packed Episode

I know I say I love American Gods, but episode eight is my favorite out of the season. It might just be my favorite out of the series so far. While I felt that episode seven was a little slower than most episodes this season, episode eight was jam-packed. It almost had every character in it, but at no point did any story feel rushed. Yes, it was fast-paced, but it knew the right moments to let itself breathe. From start to finish, I loved every moment of this episode, and the end had me smiling happily.

Slight Spoilers

First of all, I want to start with the fact that we finally meet Liam Doyle! Iwan Rheon is introduced as another leprechaun that Laura Moon has to deal with. While their interactions are brief, they are very important. In this episode, Laura has to make a decision to trust Liam, even though she just met him. As the audience, we start to wonder if this was a good idea on Laura’s part. After all, we all heard Mr. World say that Laura, Salim, and Shadow would be dead if Laura didn’t deliver her promise of killing Wednesday.

Salim and Laura Are The Best

Some of my favorite moments in this episode were the Salim and Laura interactions. I said it during their last emotional scene together, these two mesh so well. Omid Abtahi and Emily Browning have this fantastic chemistry with each other. It’s amazing to see the two characters grow and help each other out of the hurt of lost loved ones that they’ve been dealing with all season.

What’s Up With Technical Boy?

Some of my other favorite moments came from Technical Boy this episode. I am so excited to see where else Tech Boy’s journey leads him, because this episode showed that the God of technology is just getting started. And, it’s with a little help from an unexpected friend. This is one storyline I’m so happy they changed from the book, because there’s so many other possibilities for Tech’s story from here.

Two Norse Gods Meet in a Den

At the beginning of the season, I didn’t care too much about Tyr’s inclusion in the show. Not that I disliked it, it just didn’t land too highly on my list of likes. However, after getting the backstory and seeing Tyr and Wednesday interact in this episode, I actually really am glad the show included Tyr.

Rating: 5/5

Episode eight was fun, brought closure to some things, felt satisfying, was emotional, and set the stage for two explosive upcoming episodes. You should also know that there was a pretty long rated-R scene in this episode, but even that was a lot of fun. Just don’t watch it with your parents.
