In this case Ant Man’s David Dastmalchian, who played Kurt, one of Scott Lang’s business partners who hung in the van, will now tackle a villains role as The Polka Dot Man in James Gunn’s Suicide Squad. If you are scratching your head and wondering who? You’re not alone. I had to look the character up.
The Polka-Dot Man debuted in 1962’s Detective Comics No. 300. Abner Krill (his government name) was a low-level crook who attempted to make a reputation for himself with spot-themed crimes. To that end, he designed a costume that included some spot themed tricks, such as spots that transformed into buzzsaws and flying saucers on command. Basically he was Inspector Gadget but dot based.
The fact that Gunn decided to include an obscure character is not too surprising as he has shown an affinity for such comic characters, and this one is about obscure as you can find as he has appeared less than a dozen times since his creation. On the plus side for Dastmalchian, he can make the role all his own.
Suicide Squad so far has signed Margot Robbie, who is returning as villain-turned-sometime heroine Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney, back as Captain Boomerang, and Idris Elba in a yet undefined role and now Dastmalchian. How do you like the signing of David Dastmalchian for the Suicide Squad?
