Anya Taylor-Joy’s ‘The Queens Gambit’ To Film In Berlin, Toronto

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”23802″ img_size=”330×330″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]Exclusive: Back in March it was reported that Netflix had ordered a limited series starring Anya Taylor-Joy called The Queens Gambit. The series is written, produced and directed by Oscar nominee Scott Frank. Queen’s Gambit is based on the 1983 novel from Walter Tevis and will be six episodes.

The Queen’s Gambit traces chess prodigy Beth Harmon’s life from her childhood in an orphanage through her struggles with tranquilizer and alcohol addiction to her triumphant rise through the Grandmaster ranks. Eight-year-old orphan Beth Harmon is quiet, sullen, and by all appearances unremarkable until she plays her first game of chess. Her senses grow sharper, her thinking clearer, and for the first time in her life she feels herself fully in control. By the age of sixteen, she’s competing for the U.S. Open championship. But as she hones her skills on the professional circuit, the stakes get higher, her isolation grows more frightening, and the thought of escape becomes all the more tempting.

We have learned that production is set to begin on August 15 and wrap on November 14 in Berlin and Toronto.

The Queens Gambit was once to be turned into a film, starring Heath Ledger, but was cancelled after his death.
