Warning: This article contains major spoilers for the series finale of The Boys.

Three months after the series finale of Amazon’s hit superhero satire The Boys, star Aya Cash has opened up about her thoughts on the ending, particularly the fate of Homelander. Cash, who portrayed the villainous Stormfront in Season 2, spoke with MovieWeb about the final season and the show’s overall impact.

The finale brought a definitive close to Homelander’s reign of terror. After losing his powers due to an energy blast from Kimiko, the once-invincible supe faced Billy Butcher in a brutal showdown. Homelander desperately tried to fly but failed, realizing he had become human, before Butcher finished him off. Showrunner Eric Kripke’s decision to kill the character has been seen by many as a fitting and satisfying conclusion, even as Season 5 proved divisive among viewers.

Aya Cash on Working on The Boys

Cash described her time on the series as “wild, but also, like, very sweet.” She added that the production included “some beautiful, tender moments,” which she appreciated. Although she enjoyed playing a villain, she found the role of a literal Nazi especially challenging because of the hateful dialogue and ideology she had to portray.

Despite the darkness of her character, Cash rooted for the heroes. “Ultimately, the good guys win, even if it’s complicated,” she noted.

Praise for Antony Starr’s Final Performance

Cash specifically highlighted Antony Starr’s work in Homelander’s last moments. She called the scene of Starr attempting to jump and fly “incredible.” She explained that the motion is exactly what actors perform during wire stunts on set: “That’s actually the motion you do when you’re flying. So it’s very much what the actors are doing on set. When you think it looks really cool, they’re flying. That’s what we actually do.”

She also reflected on her own flying sequences, particularly the intense love scene with Homelander in Season 2, Episode 5. Cash said the wirework and rigging made it difficult, and she preferred the fight scenes over delivering Stormfront’s toxic ideology and racial slurs.

    Looking Ahead to Vought Rising

Cash is set to reprise her role as Stormfront (also known as Clara Vought) in the upcoming prequel series Vought Rising. The show is a murder mystery set in the 1950s that explores Vought’s early days as a government contractor, focusing on the origins of Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) and Stormfront as some of the first Compound V-enhanced supers.

Filming has already wrapped. Cash expressed strong enthusiasm for the project, saying, “We’ve finished shooting. It’s one of the best things I’ve ever worked on, and I hope the fans love it as much as I do.”

The Boys ran for five seasons from 2019 to 2026 on Prime Video. While the main series has concluded, the expanded universe continues with Vought Rising and other spin-offs still on the way.
