Batman And The Outsiders #4 Year Of The Villains! Review (2019)

At last—the Outsiders take off on their mission to rescue Sofia from none other than Ra’s al Ghul! But Ra’s has other ideas for the quartet, and with the aid of Lex Luthor’s mysterious gift, they are playing right into his hand. – DC Comics

In Batman and the Outsiders #4, we start with Ra’s al Ghul doing what he does best, manipulating others to do his bidding. “I am the Demon here to protect the world. And you are the Demon’s Flame. You are no long Sofia Ramos. Identity is action. You have been reborn by my wisdom.” Bryan Hill writes characters in a way that you can’t help but feel entranced, Ra’s al Ghul is the perfect example of that.

My thing with Bryan Hill is that he moves way too fast with certain story moments. For example, Cass and Duke moments. Every time Cass tries to help Duke with his PTSD. It moves into another character. The one story line that feels like it keeps getting developed incredibly well with each issue is Tatsu and Black Lightning’s; the others feel rushed.

Bryan Hill has perfected giving characters problems so they can grow from them, it has become a weakness for the entire story because Bryan Hill has so many characters to focus on he has to rush through some of them. Bryan Hill would be perfect for a solo comic rather than a team-up comic.

That said, the art is incredible. It’s not as detailed as something like the Curse of the White Knight, but it doesn’t need to. Not only does it compliments the story Bryan Hill is giving us it enhances it in way that will make you fall in love with the characters or straight-up hate the characters (In a right way) this is thanks to the whole art team! Coloring by Veronica Gandini, and Art by Dexter Soy. My problem, which is not even a problem is the lettering. It would be cool if it had its unique lettering, but it just looks basic. It’s not bad, as long as you can read it then that’s all that matters I am just spoiled.

Overall get Batman and the Outsiders #4, especially if you want great character and incredible art! Bryan Hill falters when it comes to the overall story as single issues, but once this story wraps up ultimately, it will be worth it!
