Marvel’s Blade was set to begin production next month but a week ago we awoke to news that director Bassam Tariq had left the project. Before that news broke we reported that Blade would be set in the early 1900s and end up in the 1980s.

This information was later confirmed by The Illuminerdi but with Bassam leaving and a new script writer coming on board (Beau DeMayo) there is no telling if that storyline will continue or not. There have been rumors as to why Bassam left the project and Jeff Sneider with Collider even reported that Mahershala was not impressed with the script and the movie had lackluster action scenes.
Now Daniel Richtman is backing up those claims and says Bassam was fired from the project because he wanted to add more stuff to the script that Ali did not approve of. Becaause of this, Bassam was let go and the studio is now searching for a new director. Richtman adds that the current script is terrible and that Ali is not happy with it at all.
Bassam reportedly is staying on as producer but will likely have no further input on the film and I doubt will be involved with it at all if he was fired. Marvel nor Bassam have said he was fired.
With Marvel having to find a new director and a possible script re-write, it looks like Blade will be delayed well into 2023. Marvel just released Werewolf By Night and fans were hoping to see Blade in it. Maybe Marvel can get Mahershala Ali’s Blade into an upcoming film so we do not have to wait until 2024 or 2025 to see him as the titular character.
