Boba Fett Has Returned & Moff Gideon Strikes Back

Directed by Robert Rodriguez, Episode 6: ‘The Tragedy’ was a story most expected to be filler. A transitionary episode between the instantly iconic debut of Ahsoka and the highly anticipated finale. Instead, it featured the true return of legendary Star Wars bounty hunter: Boba Fett. While Episode 1’s: ‘The Marshal’ confirmed his survival post Return of the Jedi, this showed him back in action and was a triumphant return. We now have confirmation that the mysterious figure at the end of S1, E5’s: ‘The Gunslinger was indeed Boba Fett, and here, he seeks to reclaim his iconic armor from Din Djarin. A tense standoff initially ensues, yet is interrupted by the Imperial Remnant’s arrival, leading to Din, Boba, and Fennec, who survived thanks to Boba’s aid at the end of S1, E5, facing off against multiple squadrons of stormtroopers. It is here that we quickly learn that the old bounty-hunter has not lost his skills, Boba’s use of melee weapons, a blaster, and the tools of his trusty armor devastating the Stormtroopers unlucky enough to cross paths with him.

All three act to protect themselves and Grogu from the Imperials, yet they are unsuccessful as Moff Gideon sends the Dark Troopers to snatch a vulnerable Grogu from the seeing stone. A fascinating addition to the lore, seeing the force generate a visible physical shield around Grogu was a visual treat and just which Jedi he was able to reach out to sets up some truly mindblowing cameos for the finale/an appearance next season. Cal Kestis, Mace Windu, Ahsoka Tano, Ezra Bridger… perhaps even Luke Skywalker? Regardless of who turns up to help or when, their arrival will likely melt the internet, as the Mandalorian now sets itself up for its strongest finale yet. Din is planning to bring together a team of allies to rescue the child and slay Moff Gideon; once and for all.

We can be certain that Boba, Fennec, and Cara will be part of this, with Greef and Migs Mayfield being exceptionally likely, the latter being the planned target of a prison-break effort by the Mandalorian in order to help locate Moff Gideon. Other potential possibilities include Cobb Vanth, Bo-Katan, Ahsoka Tano, and possibly even a second Jedi character; perhaps whoever Grogu was in contact with making a surprise appearance. Some of the series most enjoyable characters will now team up to bring down this dangerous rising villain in the Star Wars universe, and we can expect an action-packed rollercoaster finale, unlike anything the show has yet delivered. Boba Fett’s return confirms that the show’s next two episodes will be solidly plot-focused, as the show moves away from episodic adventures and into a serialized finale. Yet perhaps even more shocking is the possibility that Boba Fett may well be killed in the next two stories. With Din’s Razor Crest ship incinerated by Moff Gideon’s light cruiser, he’s going to need a new ship and few things help to build a villain’s intimidation factor than the death of an established and beloved character. If so, this finale may well make Moff Gideon the bane of all Mandalorian fans and exactly what the show needs for an iconic villainous presence.
