Captain Marvel 2 Is Green-lit and Will Hit Theaters in 2022

If you thought you had seen the last of Captain Marvel, think again! Captain Marvel 2 is officially happening. Rising scribe Megan McDonnell has been brought in to pen the script. McDonnell is a staff writer for Disney+’s WandaVision, which is really setting up to be a promising series. With McDonnell in final negotiations for the project, McDonnell really seems to be rising up to make a name for herself both in the MCU and in cinema.

Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck will not return for the sequel. Rather, Marvel is looking for a female director to take on the sequel, which is slated to be released sometime in 2022. There is not a lot of information given yet, but instead of being a prequel like the first one, Captain Marvel 2 will be set in the present day. This will be the first female-led MCU movie to take place in present-day (Black Widow is also a prequel).

Captain Marvel starred Brie Larson as Carol Danvers and was a new take on an origin’s story. While it did well in the box office, it also had a slew of trolls online looking for any reason to shoot this movie down. No doubt, the same will happen with the sequel. Regardless, I’m hoping Samuel L. Jackson comes back as he and Larson had tremendous chemistry in the first one. The last we saw Danvers was at Tony Stark’s funeral in Avengers: Endgame. It’ll be interesting to see what Carol is up to.

Are you excited for a second Captain Marvel?
