Captain Marvel Prelude #1 Reveals What Nick Fury and Maria Hill Were Up To Before Avengers: Infinity War

In the end-credit scene for Avengers: Infinity War, we see former SHIELD director Nick Fury and Agent Maria Hill in the streets of New York as various people begin disappearing, all thanks to Thanos achieving his goal of wiping half of the universe out. Fury and Hill soon join the misfortunate, turning to dust. But, before Fury is able to, he sends a message on what looks like a pager (remember those?) to Captain Marvel, inciting the audience to beg for Carol Danvers to please come save us all.

In Captain Marvel Prelude #1, we now see what the two agents were doing before this. Fury and Hill, in this comic; are trying to reconcile the differences between Steve Rogers and Tony Stark, following the events that led the two to fight during Captain America: Civil War. Unfortunately, their efforts are for not, but we do get to see Maria Hill go up against Tony Stark in a battle of the snark.

Captain Marvel does not show up in this comic, though Maria Hill does tease her at some point:

“If we do our job right, we’ll never be in a position of having to call her.” Her being Captain Marvel.

As we saw in the movie, Captain Marvel is Fury’s last resort. The biggest question on everyone’s mind, is that if Fury knew Marvel from the 90s, as indicated by the trailer for the Captain Marvel movie, where has she been this whole time? Certainly when Loki was attacking New York City in the first Avengers could have warranted a visit from the power superhero. Why didn’t Fury call her up at the time? We’ll most likely get all our answers in March, when Captain Marvel hits theaters.
