Even before Game of Thrones finished up its final season, HBO was making plans for life beyond the Throne. There were a number of prequels discussed and one that even saw pilot before the plug was yanked. Eventually, the folks at HBO decided to go with a prequel based on the book George RR Martin DID finish, Fire and Blood. It tells the story of the Targaryens set 300 years before the events chronicled in Game of Thrones.
With that in mind, Entertainment Weekly reports that casting has begun for the 10 episode series entitled House of the Dragon. While the specific roles have not been defined at this time, Martin’s book gives a hint at some of the possibilities as reported by EW.
King Viserys I: The beloved fifth Targaryen king whose reign was peaceful and prosperous until his death.
Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen: King Viserys’ chosen heir; a dragon rider who grew up expecting to become the first ruling Queen of Westeros.
Queen Alicent Hightower: Viserys’ ambitious second wife and Rhaenyra’s stepmother, who had three children of her own with the king.
Aegon II Targaryen: Princess Rhaenyra’s younger half brother who challenges Rhaenyra’s claim to the throne, igniting a civil war.
None of these roles have been confirmed. Besides, it is not outside the realm of possibility that HBO might choose to go a different route as far characters go. Needless to say Geek Vibes Nation will keep an eye on the castings and report them as they become known. Are you excited to see the prequel to Game of Thrones?
