Catwoman #14 Year Of The Villain Review (2019)

Joelle Jones has always been my favorite artist on Catwoman and still is, but Artgerm’s variant cover is gorgeous as well. From the art alone this will sell big time, but enough about these two incredible artists. The big question on everyone’s mind is. Is Catwoman #14 worth buying?

We start the first page with Catwoman severely wounded drawing with no way of survival. What an excellent way to start an issue, because it creates anticipation and suspense. Not only was this a great way story-wise but visually it keeps me engaged. The idea that each panel shows Catwoman is descending further and further into the water until we go to the next page was brilliantly drawn. Not only that, the coloring beautifully executed buy, giving us the feeling that Catwoman is not going to survive. Just kept me on the edge of my seat, and that was only the first Page!!

What grabbed my attention the most is the writing of Catwoman! Catwoman #14 is honestly one of the best written Catwoman stories I’ve read. At the very least, Ram V shows that he cares about the character so much. From the little details to talking to a cat or wanting revenge. Ram V knows that Catwoman is not a hero. But, she also is not a villain; she the type of person that is willing to do the right thing by any means necessary. The only person I have seen care about Catwoman this much is Joelle Jones, who is a fantastic artist and equally as good at writing Catwoman.

There is on the page I want to highlight a little more, and that is the page we’re Catwoman is on a rooftop talking to a cat it might sound silly, but when you read the page you will fall in love with Selina Kyle you can tell that she is still in love with Batman throughout this whole issue but mainly on this page. It not because she need him but because she wants to be with him. It is an integral part of Selina’s character should she get over Bruce, or should she not give up on him? That is what Selina needs to figure out, and I, for one, can not wait!

Mirka Andolfo and Arif Prianto have been killing it this issue namely the page layout. It feels unique but also feels smooth and fresh for the eyes and the composition with the character’s movement to each panel well done, for example, the page where Catwoman got shot that was honesty the best page of the issue after the rooftop page. Now the coloring, there is a silhouette of Catwoman about to drop down towards the crime scene. Wow! What a panel it was gorgeous.

Off-topic this is why I feel like if they remade Catwoman, whether if it is live-action or animated. It would be incredible! If it is live-action let’s get Eiza Gonzalez to play Selina Kyle aka Catwoman!

Now, back to the question at hand. Is Catwoman worth buying? And the answer is YES! Catwoman #14 is a well-written story and filled with beautiful art; this is a must buy.
