While Ragnarok was not only different tonally that its predecessors, the characters were also slightly different. While different, it also breathed new life into these characters and is the reason why we are getting a fourth Thor movie aka Thor: Love and Thunder. Sure, star Chris Hemsworth had previously stated that he had gotten close to being done with playing Thor, but he was still skeptical at first of this new shift that Taika Waititi brought to the table.
Hemsworth talked recently about his co-star, Mark Ruffalo’s hesitation about the comedic aspect to the film. Hemsworth also expressed how pleased he was with the freedom that the cast was able to take.
Hemsworth recalls Ruffalo’s hesitation on set:
“I remember Mark Ruffalo looking at me and saying, ‘Are we wrecking this movie? Are we destroying these characters?’ Tessa was like, ‘What am I a part of? What am I doing?’”
Hemsworth expressed the good feeling that he had once filmed on Ragnarok was completed:
“I wanted it to work so badly and I knew that we left everything on the field, so I had such a positive feeling about our approach to making that movie.”
As stated earlier, Waititi really brought something special to the table, which enlisted a sense of pride from Hemsworth:
“There was so much goodwill involved and everyone was willing to try something different and take risks,” Hemsworth also said after the release. “So there was a great sense of pride that Taika and I felt. The cast and the crew all felt we really went for it and swung for the fences. So, regardless of how it was going to do, I felt very happy with what we did.”
“But, look, of course I was surprised and happy and blown away by the response,” He continued. “We all wanted that to happen and felt it was something that could happen more so than ever before and when it did, it was incredible.”
What did you think of Ragnarok and are you looking forward to Love and Thunder?
