Clark Gregg Reveals Which MCU Crossover Has Held Up For ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D’

Over the early seasons of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, the initial emphasis was to tie in and promote the MCU. This started with using the character of Phil Coulson as played by Clark Gregg. Coulson had already played a part in the MCU with appearances in Iron Man, Thor and of course, The Avengers. But now that the series is coming to an end, Gregg recently talked about the crossover that he thought has held up the best. This was during a round table discussion along with CinemaBlend.

There was a lot of kind of treading water and kind of circling in the airport in Season 1 waiting to be able to reveal what we were doing and how it was crossing over. I did think that the way it crossed over with Winter Soldier and the use of the amazing Bill Paxton really paid off in the end of Season 1 was pretty spectacular. And holds up really well.

The whole Winter Soldier tie in was indeed the best use of this symbiotic relationship. It brought with it not only the John Garrett relationship, but also some great ongoing storylines with Grant Ward. And while there were some later tie ins with Thor: The Dark World, it didn’t have the overall effect that the Winter Soldier did.

In fact, in homage to the great work the late Bill Paxton did as John Garrett, they casted his son James to play the younger Garrett this season. (See all the fun stuff you missed if you didn’t watch?) But it all comes to an end this week with the two hour series final.
