Co-Creator Don Mancini Reveals Some Details About ‘Child’s Play’ Television Series

You have to hand it to Child’s Play co-creator Don Mancini. He was apparently so far ahead of the curve in his planning, he used his last movie to set up his now in pre-production television series. The details of the series are still quite unclear but Mancini and producer David Kirschner have stated that the show’s main goal is to bring the franchise back to its origins. Mancini discussed the concepts before an audience at Screamfest.

We deliberately ended Cult of Chucky with a bunch of cliffhangers to set up a TV series. Because there are so many different threads now, television could best accommodate that so that was done intentionally. At the same time, we have a whole new world, a bunch of new characters which we can say nothing about.

In the end, what Mancini and Kirschner have in mind is to get back to the children’s aspect that was so prominent in the original film. In fact, after the first three films, the series had abandoned the “Child’s Play“concept, instead inserting the  “Chucky” reference into all of its titles. It is Mancini’s hope that this adaptation to a new medium could re-energize the franchise and perhaps introduce it to a new audience along with the reassertion of the focus on “Child’s Play.”
