COLORFUL STAGE! The Movie: A Miku Who Can’t Sing is an animation film by studio P.A.WORKS featuring an all-new Hatsune Miku and the first film with the iconic Virtual Singer. Based on HATSUNE MIKU: COLORFUL STAGE!, a game about high school students finding their true feelings through music in an alternate world called “SEKAI” with the help of Hatsune Miku.

Ichika is a high school musician who can enter a mysterious place called “SEKAI,” where she and her friends express their innermost emotions through music alongside Hatsune Miku. One day after giving a live performance, Ichika meets a new Miku that she has never seen before. No matter how hard this new Miku tries to sing, she struggles connecting with the hearts of her listeners. Miku must rely on the help of others to find a way to sing again.

    Video Quality

Colorful Stage! The Movie: A Miku Who Can’t Sing arrives on Blu-Ray courtesy of GKIDS with a glorious 1080p transfer in its original aspect ratio. The anime designs explode with pleasing detail and texture. Every scene delivers a buffet of tantalizing imagery that makes you appreciate that there is still love for 2-D animation, even if there is digital assistance. This feature showcases unbelievable detail in the setting, including distinct facets that make each environment feel carefully curated. The classic character designs are flawlessly rendered in each space. The transfer handles every sudden change with stability including no jagged lines or color bleeding. The colors are bold and vibrantly saturated with dynamic hues engaging the senses. Highlights are expertly maintained, and black levels are deep with no semblance of compression artifacts or digital anomalies. This is what you crave from a modern anime experience.

    Audio Quality

The Blu-Ray comes with a top-notch DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless track presented here in its original Japanese. One of the key aspects of the film is the music, and each performance adds powerful emotions to the story as it touches the audience with the surround sound presentation. The environmental characteristics in the surround channels are vital as the sounds usher you along this journey. The soundscape capitalizes on its narrative ambition with some natural texture to the world. Dialogue comes through crisp and clear without getting clipped by any competing elements. GKIDS always delivers for fans with a worthwhile presentation. The film is presented with optional English, English SDH, French, and Spanish subtitles.

    Final Thoughts

Colorful Stage! The Movie: A Miku Who Can’t Sing is a very ambitious adaptation that does not hold your hand as it brings together a robust amount of characters with varying degrees of context. The result is thrilling for those who are already familiar with the universe, but newcomers may find themselves doing homework after their first viewing. What is clear, no matter your level of engagement, is that there is a beautiful message at the center of the story about honoring your unique qualities. The animation is absolutely gorgeous, and the music will be stuck in your head for a while after going along this journey. It will be a challenge for viewers not willing to meet the film on its level, but those who lock in should have a great time. GKIDS has released a Blu-Ray with an exquisite A/V presentation, a valuable assortment of supplemental features, and impressive collector’s edition packaging. Recommended

Colorful Stage! The Movie: A Miku Who Can’t Sing is currently available to purchase on Blu-Ray in a Collector’s Edition set.  The film will be available in a standard edition Blu-Ray on June 16, 2026.
