Comic Review: Pearl #8

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”19930″ img_size=”411×631″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]Pearl initially starts up with our main character Pearl in Japan and united with her long lost cousin Niko. It’s clear that Pearl has left America, but initially, you are not aware of what happened in the previous issue with Mr. Mike. Well, Pearl explains this and we are then transported to prior events. Mr. Mike speaking with Pearl about her mother having been involved in the Yakuza.

Many of the panels consist of Mr. Mike and Pearl talking, where Mr. Mike explains the situation at hand and deals with a little bit of why Pearl’s mother and she was so important to the Yakuza, despite it being a self-described boys club. Mr. Mike comes to the conclusion that the only way that they can even think about getting Pearl’s father out of prison is by going to Japan, which is a whole new world for Pearl considering she’s never left America.

Pearl is a bit of a fish out of water in Japan, even among a cousin. It’s understandable to see why Pearl is on guard, not wanting to take any chances, as it is not obvious if she should really even truly trust Mr. Mike. Still, Pearl meets someone at the end of the issue who will be another piece to the puzzle for her journey and it is clear, the story is far from over.

The illustration is really edgy and gritty, with very much a touch of what we’re used to in the Jessica Jones comics from Marvel, which is understandable considering that Pearl comes from the people responsible for Jessica Jones. I was a little unsure of this story from the former issue, but I am completely sold in the second issue with the story and the style of drawing in issue #8.[/vc_column_text][vc_images_carousel images=”19934,19935″ img_size=”500×384″ speed=”3000″ autoplay=”yes” wrap=”yes”][vc_images_carousel images=”19931,19933,19936,19937″ img_size=”411×631″ speed=”3000″ autoplay=”yes” wrap=”yes”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
