Comic Review: The Batman Who Laughs

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”11714″ img_size=”400×600″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]The Batman Who Laughs follows the events of Dark Nights: Metal and is presented for all of us to enjoy by Scott Snyder and Jock. Now that we got the specifics out of the way, let’s dive right into this comic. Which, is exactly what this issue does. From the first page, we are front and center in the middle of a car chase with high stakes. Your eyes will be glued to every page as we watch Batman chasing after a mobile home being sped through a busy highway, which would naturally make anyone nervous.

As if the events of this comic weren’t energetic enough, we are given a real mind f*ck. A body that Bruce is examining is none other than…him. That’s right. Two Bruce Waynes. For a moment, I felt a hitch in the back of my throat. Not because Bruce was pointing out how from certain clues that this version of himself lived in a reality where he was happily married with a child, but because of Alfred. All I could imagine was Michael Cain’s version of Alfred crying over Bruce Wayne, as this is someone who has watched Bruce grow up, and now he’s looking at a corpse on a slab.

Then things get dark and twisted and I just ate that all up. Holy shit. The deranged and demented path we go down with this story is unbelievable and there was more than one panel that I gawked at while reading. The is a comic that one day I would truly love to see adapted onto the big screen; it probably would be too dark for general audiences, but that’s okay. The Joker is at his best when he is sick and bringing Bruce Wayne to the brink of insanity, testing him. And at the end of this comic, I’m not sure if even Bruce will be able to fight off against what the Joker has in store for him.

The Batman Who Laughs is a comic strip that is a must read and is sure to give you nightmares, but they’ll be welcomed. After all, who doesn’t love a winning smile?
