It’s that time of year! The 78th Annual Golden Globe Awards Nominations, celebrating the best in film and television, were announced Wednesday, February 3rd, 2021. What year it’s been with movie theaters closed for most of 2020.
Returning for the fourth time is host Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. The Golden Globes will take place virtually or in some way or another — on Sunday, Feb. 28 on NBC.
Film
Pretty much every film nominated has been released online or is still awaiting release. The list highlights what we’ve been watching from home while in quarantine for the last year. Netflix leads in both television and film nominations, including the drama “The Trial of the Chicago 7” with five nominations. “Mank,” received the most nods leading with six.
Television
Netflix’s “The Crown” led with six nominations in the television category. Right on the heels is Schitt’s Creek,” with five nods.
Most Expected
What most of us were expecting was the nomination of Chadwick Boseman for the Netflix film “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’. Boseman died last year after a private battle with colon cancer was only 43.
Carol Burnnett & Cecil B. DeMille Award
This year’s Carol Burnett Award will go to TV pioneer Norman Lear. for his lifetime of achievement. The Cecil B. DeMille Award goes to actress/activist Jane Fonda for her outstanding contributions to the industry.
