Could Chiwetel Ejiofor’s Baron Mordo Become the New Loki of the MCU?

Chiwetel Ejiofor is a brilliant actor. While most may know him from his breathtaking performance in 12 Years a Slave, Ejiofor has stepped into the Marvel Cinematic Universe and it looks like he may be more of a predominant figure than we initially realized. Playing Baron Mordo in Doctor Strange, Mordo started out as Stephen Strange’s trusted companion, but things took a dark turn when Mordo and Strange parted ways. From the end-credits scene, it seems that we’ll definitely see Mordo again in a villain role.

With the character Loki having met a grisly fate in Avengers: Infinity War, Marvel is going to look for another long-term villain for their universe. According to the script-writer for Dr. Strange, Robert C. Cargill, the plan for Mordo may include essentially becoming the new Loki.

”For those of you who have ever read the comics, you know that Baron Mordo has a very particular arc, and that is something we discussed with Chiwetel while working on the first movie. And part of the reason Chiwetel wanted to play Mordo was because he has a definitive ending as a character and it’s such a fascinating ending. And I do know that whether we are attached or not, that Marvel plans on working towards that ending and fully realizing Mordo as more than just a cardboard cutout villain, but actually taking him to kind of Loki levels of awesomeness. That’s the goal with him.”

Now, I’ve been a huge fan of Tom Hiddleston’s Loki since the character was first introduced, but I am interested in seeing Ejiofor getting the stage to really develop his character. With the new phase of the MCU in play, we could use a strong actor like Ejiofor to give us a lasting impression.
