The television streaming era has entered a phase in which adaptations from other media are among the biggest blockbuster hits. The Witcher is now one of Netflix’s flagship series, with The Last of Us having the same effect at HBO Max. Producers will now be scrambling for the next big thing.

Red Dead Redemption 2 could be the ideal option for a series. It is regarded as one of the best titles ever made, and its gambling and casino elements are highly relevant to mainstream culture. On top of that, it has scope for multiple seasons as it served as a prequel to its predecessor, Red Dead Redemption.

Blackjack Elements of RDR2 Would Appeal to Viewers

In the modern entertainment age, it’s hugely important for content to be marketable across a range of platforms. The online casino industry is hard for television producers to ignore now that millions of people play blackjack online among other games. Live streaming has made the classic card game even more accessible, with innovative versions like Lighting Blackjack and Power Blackjack now cropping up. If a television series can be promoted to this huge audience, it stands a good chance of success.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is a strong contender for a television adaptation because one of its best elements was the inclusion of blackjack. Players could walk into saloons and other social settings and stake on the card game. The action took place from a first-person perspective, which helped to immerse players in what was happening. Blackjack has traditionally worked in the television and film industries, with many popular movies using it to good effect in the past. If a Red Dead Redemption series was made, blackjack would have to be included.

Streaming Services Will be Looking for the Next Big Thing

The Last of Us was one of the biggest television hits of 2023, and it is now considered among HBO’s leading shows such as The White Lotus and Succession. Fans are desperate to see what happens next in the bleak post-apocalyptic setting, with the first season leaving many options open for the showrunners to explore. The much-lauded series provide that adaptations like this can work by staying close to the source material but also bringing fresh ideas of their own.

When Game of Thrones finished airing in 2019, Netflix decided to try to fill the void that it left with The Witcher. The Henry Cavill-led fantasy offering has been met with a mixed response from critics, but it has generally been popular among viewers.

Because it draws inspiration from Andrzej Sapkowski’s novels, there is scope for around seven or eight seasons. This means that it could continue leading the way in the television adaptation stakes for many years. Other streaming services like Amazon and Disney+ may be looking for their own offering to compete with it, and that’s where Red Dead Redemption could come in.

In the era of adaptations, television producers need to turn to top quality source material. It doesn’t get much better than Red Dead Redemption in this regard, and it would be great to see it get the television treatment.
