Sean Byrne, the director behind The Devil’s Candy and The Loved Ones, is back with Dangerous Animals, a pulse-pounding horror-thriller that plunges audiences into the depths of terror. Starring Jai Courtney (Suicide Squad), Hassie Harrison (Yellowstone), and Josh Heuston (Dune: Prophecy), the film promises a gripping survival story where the ocean isn’t the only thing hunting its prey.

A Fight for Survival on the Open Water

Set to hit theaters on June 6, 2025, Dangerous Animals follows Zephyr, a fearless and rebellious surfer who finds herself trapped aboard a boat with a shark-obsessed serial killer. As the predator prepares a gruesome offering to the sea’s deadliest creatures, Zephyr must rely on her instincts and cunning to escape before she becomes the next sacrifice. With the vast, open ocean offering no easy way out, the film sets up a claustrophobic and intense battle between hunter and hunted.

A Director Known for Unrelenting Tension

Sean Byrne has earned a reputation for delivering visceral, character-driven horror that lingers long after the credits roll. From the psychological torment of The Loved Ones to the demonic undertones of The Devil’s Candy, Byrne’s work thrives on raw tension and deeply unsettling narratives. Dangerous Animals appears to follow that same path, blending psychological horror with high-stakes survival.

A Cast Ready to Dive into Terror

Jai Courtney takes on what could be one of his darkest roles yet, bringing his intensity to the menacing antagonist. Meanwhile, Hassie Harrison steps into the role of Zephyr, a heroine forced to push her limits in a fight for her life. Rounding out the cast is Josh Heuston, whose role remains shrouded in mystery but is sure to add another layer to the film’s suspense.

    A Shark Movie with Bite

While shark horror films have long been a staple of the genre, Dangerous Animals looks to set itself apart with a fresh take—shifting the fear from below the surface to right on deck. With the psychological torment of captivity mixed with the ever-present threat of what lurks beneath, the film aims to deliver a double dose of dread.

With Dangerous Animals, Byrne is set to unleash another nightmare-inducing experience, proving once again why he’s one of modern horror’s most compelling filmmakers. Will Zephyr escape, or will she be dragged into the abyss? Audiences will find out when the film hits theaters on June 6, 2025.
