Daredevil Actor Peter Shinkoda Reveals Jeph Loeb Didn’t Want to Write Storylines For Asian People

As a huge fan of Netflix’s Daredevil, I can tell you that two of the characters we loved the most were Nobu and Madame Gao. Not only was Madame Gao a poised and important, yet dangerous figure in the Daredevil/The Defenders world, but Nobu was a worthy adversary. One that we would have liked to see back again. One that actor Peter Shinkoda had previously expressed he’d love to play again. And we agree!

This is why it’s so crazy to hear that Jeph Loeb, former head of Marvel TV; did not care about these two characters the way we did. In fact, he blatantly said how little [he felt] people cared about these characters. And Asian people in general. During a virtual #SaveDaredevil Con, Shinkoda revealed that Loeb purposely didn’t explore storylines with Nobu and Gao.

Shinkoda revealed that Loeb’s reasoning was:

“Nobody cares about Chinese people and Asian people. There were three Marvel movies a trilogy called Blade made where Wesley Snipes kills 200 Asians each movie. Nobody gives a shit. So, don’t write about Nobu and Gao.”
