Not even a full year after the release of the Daryl Dixon Walking dead spin-off show, simply titled The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, fans have already received a so-called “sneak peek” at the second season, set to drop this summer. The clip, coming in at just over two minutes, has amassed a couple hundred thousand views on YouTube in just a day after premiering live during the finale of The Ones Who Live this past Sunday.
The six-episode pilot season seemed to satisfy most fans in curating the content to Daryl’s esteemed character; the hard-nosed, survival elements took watchers back to the best stretches of the series that laid the foundation for the spinoff in the first place, though just seeing Daryl back in action was enough of a pull for most to give it a shot in the first place.
The sophomore season promises a new approach in the first second of the trailer, before even one clip is shown. The title has changed, now bearing a character’s name who has been tied tightly to Daryl since season two of The Walking Dead all the way back in 2011: Carol. Newly dubbed Daryl Dixon: The Book of Carol, the next slew of episodes seem to carry a premise suited to the both of them, with a suggested promise of a reuniting looming on the horizon.
Still, the new trailer opens on a familiar focus with Daryl, now bearing a shotgun, spearheading a team of operatives into what appears to be a remote base. Their motive remains unknown, but he and his group make quick work of the defendants, cleaning house and looking on towards whatever goal it is they’re chasing. The opening is surprisingly violent yet especially true to Daryl’s character; he does what he must to get the job done. Whatever he’s after, it must be of crucial importance.
After a shot lingers on Daryl’s forlorn expression for a moment, we cut hard to a junkyard as a motorbike wheel rolls into frame. Only it isn’t Darly, we just cut away from him… it’s Carol. Unlike Daryl, her objective is clear: to find Daryl. She approaches a crew of working men, hands innocently raised in the air (she won’t fool any fans, but these guys have no clue what’s coming) as she inquires about “a buddy of hers” who got the bike she’s riding from them. She kindly asks them to help her fix it, clearly digging for more than a repair job. As soon as one of the men drops Daryl’s name (and curses his memory) in reference to who owned the bike before her, the frame pans down to reveal his iconic crossbow resting on the hood of a car. Carol snaps.
She sweeps the bow off of the hood and holds the men at arrow-point, if you will. “Where is my friend?” With that, we cut to black, with the summer release date being the final bookend on the two-minute and sixteen-second runtime. Despite only showing small fragments of two scenes, the teaser should give diehard fans plenty to talk about for the next few months before release, as well as provide plenty of allure for potential new onlookers yet to be looped into the infinite iceberg that is The Walking Dead universe. Coming hot off the heels of the success of The Ones Who Live, the hyper-popular Rick and Michonne spinoff, the franchise is wasting no time in capitalizing on the attention. Stay tuned for more coverage as new news inevitably drops, all the way up to the eventual release of Daryl Dixon: The Book of Carol, rolling onto AMC and AMC + this summer.
