If there is one cast member of Guardians of the Galaxy that the firing of James Gunn is hitting hard, it’s Dave Bautista. The actor behind Drax the Destroyer has been very vocal about his feelings surrounding Gunn being let go from Disney, which came as a result after old tweets of his were resurfaced. I do urge those reading this article to not automatically jump to anger, as it’s easy to do so in this situation. There are many different factors and every cast member is entitled to their feelings in regards to a man they’ve worked with for years.
Along with Bautista being vocal about his unhappiness with Disney, he also expressed that if the script for GoTG Vol 3 wasn’t Gunn’s original script, he was going to walk. While the cast members are legally obligated for an extended period of films, where Bautista stands right now, he’s willing to break contract for principal.
“Where I’m at right now is that if [Marvel] don’t use that script, then I’m going to ask them to release me from my contract, cut me out or recast me.
“I’d be doing James a disservice if I didn’t.”
I will say that Dave Bautista is an actor I respect. As someone who started his career in WWE, I admired his dedication once getting hired for the first Guardians of the Galaxy. In my biased opinion, he’s the one wrestler who transitioned into movies with ease, rather than others who had to make a slew of bad movies just to be where they’re at today. I won’t mention the Rock in the Scorpion King.
It’s really disheartening as a fan, though; to see how everything is turning out. Guardians of the Galaxy still remains one of the best teams in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We’ve been waiting forever just for them to be in an Avengers movie and they made up some of the best scenes in the movie. Seeing how everything is panning out, we can see that a large portion of this comes from their sense of comradery. Here’s hoping that we’ll get a third volume to the GoTG trilogy with all our favorite “a-holes” in it and that they’ll do right by us, the fans.
