David Harbour’s Hellboy: What You Need to Know

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”7759″ img_size=”864×426″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]No matter how you feel about the 2019 remake of Hellboy, which stays David Harbour; you can’t deny that the trailer looks great. Stepping in Ron Perlman’s shoes is never an easy thing, but it looks like Harbour’s will have a different feel to Guillermo del Toro’s rendition of the comic book character. With the movie rolling in within the next couple of months, you may still have a few questions about what to expect from the Stranger Thing’s star donning the big horns. Let’s break it down, shall we?

If you watched del Toro’s movies, you probably were awaiting a third movie, but alas this is not a part of that realm. This Hellboy will be a separate entity and essentially be retelling his origin story, which is that Hellboy is a demon, who was summoned by Nazis and a Russian sorcerer called Rasputin during an experiment in order to help turn things around in WWII. Allied forces then interrupt the experiment and a scientist named Trevor Bruttenholm  (played by America Gods’ Ian McShane in the 2019 remake) adopts Hellboy. Hellboy thus becomes one of the good guys, though; his ultimate destiny is to bring the end of the world; since we saw Hellboy fighting alongside the “good guys”, it’ll be interesting to see how this “destiny” plays out.

Milla Jovovich plays Nimue the Blood Queen, who Hellboy will be facing off against. According to Empire, this movie was originally meant to be called Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen.

Fans of Ron Perlman’s Hellboy will recognize familiar characters with new faces, but will also be introduced to new characters such as Ben Daimio (Daniel Dae Kim), who originally was meant to be played by Ed Skrein, who stepped down due to whitewashing accusations. Another new character is Sasha Lane (Alice Monaghan) who was rescued by Hellboy when she was a young girl. Abe and Liz are not expected to show up, but you never know if the movie might surprise us.

For those worried about the “comedic” take this rendition is going with, just know that director Neil Marshall is not skimping on the horror movie/gory aspects that everyone loved from del Toro’s adaptation:

“It was always a case of, ‘When in doubt, go back to the source material.’ Some of the stuff is pretty sick,” Marshall told Empire in November last year. “More violent and more bloody. We weren’t making it with handcuffs on.”

Hellboy (2019) is directed by Neil Marshall and will premiere in theaters April 11th.[/vc_column_text][vc_video link=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dt5g5_1cKVk” align=”center”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
