DC Comic Review: Harley Quinn #63

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”25738″ img_size=”411×623″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]Ever since I first saw Harley Quinn in Batman: The Animated Series, I fell in love. One of my favorite comic book characters, Harley has become a fixture in geek culture. Which, was why I was excited to get a hold of Harley Quinn #63.

Frankly, I was a little underwhelmed. #63 seeks out to humanize Harley, while having her sitting by her mother’s hospital bedside. It is a little strange to see Harley Quinn, knowing her backstory; having a seemingly normal relationship with her mom. Just like any young girl, the prospect of losing a mother is devastating. So, this certainly did tug at the heartstrings when you got past the oddity of this being a Harley Quinn comic.

We see Harley on a tiny little adventure to a video store that soon becomes a one on one duel with the Grim Reaper himself. I understand that the comic was probably trying to take a more humorous approach here. They weren’t looking for it to be necessarily grim or imposing considering the Grim Reaper was there to take Harley’s life. But, the dialogue at times seemed inauthentic and unnatural. There was something a little…rated G about this comic, though it is sad when Harley realizes what her time with the Grim Reaper meant for her back in the land of the living.

Over all, it will be interesting to see where this story leads, especially in the last panel. I always appreciate Harley in her classic costume. But, I would give this 2.5 out of 5 stars, simply because the story didn’t attach to me as others had.[/vc_column_text][vc_images_carousel images=”25732,25733,25734,25735,25736,25737,25739″ img_size=”411×631″ speed=”3000″ autoplay=”yes” wrap=”yes”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
