DC Comic Review: Lois Lane #2

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”27726″ img_size=”411×623″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]I never knew I needed a Jessica Jones, PI, Noir, Carmen Santiago type of story with Lois Lane, but DC’s Lois Lane series makes me almost mad that we haven’t gotten this beforehand. I know I raved about the series in the first issue, but I’m just reliving this awesome concept in the second issue as well. Lois Lane is this wonderfully gritty, told from the streets, kind of story that you would never think of with this character. After all, as the casual comic book/movie fan, what do you know about Lois? She works at a newspaper and she’s involved with Clark Kent/Superman. Often times she’s simply the damsel in distress.

Lois Lane certainly doesn’t need anyone looking out for her, least of all Superman. When a photo of Lois kissing Superman goes viral, the media is quick to jump on it. Quick to label Lois a cheater and everything else in the book, since the public believes that her husband is Clark Kent (which he is) and the public is unaware of who Clark really is. While Clark, of course, asks Lois if she’d like him to do anything about it, he still respects her decision to not react. It’s Lois’s name being dragged through the mud, but Clark doesn’t do anything to simply swoop in and save the day. He knows his wife will handle it how she wants to and he respects that. I love that – please take notes, story writers.

Media frenzy aside, Lois doesn’t let anything get in the way of her job. And she’s got a big story to investigate, so there’s no time to wallow in a tarnished reputation. This is certainly a Lois Lane you never thought you would see and I certainly hope you are receiving it as positively as I am. This gritty noir is exactly what was needed to vamp up this character and give an interesting spin to the Justice League universe. Between Lois Lane and Pearl, I’m loving the female-centric, “smoky”, 1930s movie vibes that DC is giving me right now. Keep it up.

Lois Lane #2 gets a 5/5![/vc_column_text][vc_images_carousel images=”27721,27722,27723,27724,27725,27727,27728″ img_size=”411×631″ speed=”3000″ autoplay=”yes” wrap=”yes”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
