DC Comic Review: Martian Manhunter #5

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”22660″ img_size=”411×623″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]Charnn has survived the H’ronnmeer’s Curse and is currently torturing J’onn J’onnz in the latest issue of Martian Manhunter. For this issue, we are seeing the normally beautiful twist of colors in this series fleshed out into a gruesome and grotesque fashion, as we are screaming out in unison with J’onn. We are shown the one who survived the council that banished him and what Charnn’s plans are for our protagonist and it seems like it may be his human partner Diane who could be his only hope, if she is willing to help after everything she’s found out.

Charnn has much stronger powers than J’onn, something that unnerves him, and has put him on edge. While he is trying to keep his cover as a human among the squad, he is plagued with the inner turmoil this has presented. Honestly, such stunning color and design work in this issue, as it is always the case in the Martian Manhunter series. If you come for anything else, be sure to come for the artwork, but stay for the compelling story that explores both before, during, and after J’onn’s journey to Earth.

We find out more of Diane’s personal life in this comic issue and I am happy to see that DC is unafraid to display a same-sex couple in a mainstream series, so I have to say that this issue continues to become one of my favorites in the world of DC comics. While Diane is hoping to have a romantic night with her doctor friend, it’s John calling her, which clearly is bad timing.

J’onn will have to explain more to her than ever if he hopes to get over this hurdle. Be sure to pick up your copy of issue #5 and let me know on social media what you think of this beautifully done series.[/vc_column_text][vc_images_carousel images=”22654,22658,22659″ img_size=”411×631″ speed=”3000″ autoplay=”yes” wrap=”yes”][vc_images_carousel images=”22656,22657″ img_size=”500×384″ speed=”3000″ autoplay=”yes” wrap=”yes”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
