DC Comic Review: Suicide Squad #50

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”13602″ img_size=”600×910″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]The Justice League is great. The good guys are great.

You know who is better? The Suicide Squad. There’s nothing better than seeing a group of traditionally bad guys having to team together to fight against a common enemy. That’s what you have in Suicide Squad #50. Seeing the likes of Rick Flag, Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang, Deadshot, and Katana all work together is great to see because well, they’re the bad guys. They’re not supposed to want to protect, but the begrudging mismatched group effort is what makes reading this comic so much fun.

The battle is intense in Suicide Squad #50 and there’s more than a couple of times that you believe that one of two or the squad members is done for. While each has their own skill set and own ego of working alone, it’s only when they start working together that sh*t starts to get done. Side note: I find it hilarious that symbols are used in text bubbles where you know that the character is obviously cursing.

This one particular issue weighs heavy on Harley, Katana, and Rick Flag. In this issue, it’s clear what side Rick has finally aligned himself on, accepting that this handful of criminals is who he is dedicated to. And it’s a very revealing issue for Katana, who is herself on the edge of what the Suicide Squad is all about, but comes to earn the respect of the others.

I love Harley Quinn particularly in this issue, simply because she embodies the New 52 version of what we’ve been given. Don’t get me wrong, I love the adaptations that portray Harley in a more traditional sense and even a more darker version of that, but I also love the fun Harley who thinks of herself as a hero because sometimes she does do the right thing.

Suicide Squad #50 is a great issue to pick up and reminds us why we love this group, perhaps even more than the “good guys” themselves.
