DC Comic Review: The Green Lantern #5

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”17060″ img_size=”411×631″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]The previous issue of the Green Lantern series ended with our hero Hal Jordan in a very compromising position – accused by the council of being a traitor and cast out. What was to happen to our beloved hero now that he wasn’t a Green Lantern? It was almost unbelievable to see him in such a position, with everyone before him having to arrest him and treat him like a criminal – I mean, this is Hal Jordan, right?

In the fifth issue, we see Jordan exploring the eerie depths of the Blackstars – the planet of vampires. Whereas previous episodes are filled with bright colors and exuberant scenery, this issue is dark and decrepit. You truly feel you are in the underbelly of Hades itself, with skeletons everywhere and weird, strange monsters at every turn. Hal has to make his way through this land of decay, all to prove himself as a Blackstar, as now that the Green Lanterns have turned their heads from him.

There were a few times during the issue that I was asking myself “what am I reading”? And it didn’t actually feel like a Green Lantern issue, but as the story kept going and we saw what was really going on, I found myself then saying “ah, very clever.” Regardless though, of course, much of in control Hal is, we see at the very end that he will have a hard decision in front of him. Will he go through with his mission or will his morals get the best of him? I look forward to seeing his decision in the next issue!

I give Green Lantern #5 a three out of five![/vc_column_text][vc_images_carousel images=”17061,17056,17057,17058,17059″ img_size=”411×631″ speed=”3000″ autoplay=”yes” wrap=”yes”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
