Synopsis – Heroes, villains, and gods have fallen. Cities have collapsed. The virus threatens to reach below the waves and even to the island of Themyscira. The race to save planet Earth is on! Story
In this dark issue of DCEASED, we are fowling three characters in this event. Superman, who makes sure that the daily Planet is secure for his family and other people that might have survived. During this phase of the storyline, Superman has to recognize that the infected are not people and this plays a big part later in Superman’s story.
We get Alfred’s seeing all of the Robins dead was the hardest thing to see for me. All of them had been through so much together, but life goes on and Alfred has something in that briefcase for Damian, hopefully, we will know what it is next issue or the issue after that. Damn, we are already halfway through the DCEASED story!! Anyway, Alfred’s story transitions beautifully into Harley Quinn’s story.
Harley Quinn. In the previous issue, we see Harley Quinn face her fears by letting the Joker know that she is done with the abuse and that she found someone, poison ivy, but little does she know, Joker has also been infected! In issue 3, Harley Quinn killing the Joker is the most positive thing that happens is this whole story arc. Harley Quinn finally frees herself from the Jokers grasp is liberating for her. In the words of Harley Quinn,
“…That was the most cathartic thing ever!”
That positivity is very short lived they as we soon learned that the Birds of Prey have been infected as well.
We also follow Mera and Tempests this is soon after the events of Aquaman falling into the ocean with all the infected and all of the blood let into the ocean. We all speculated that the blood will be another cause of the infected, but this issue confirms it fully. Now we have three ways you can be infected.
1. Social Media / Internet
2. Getting Scratched by The Infected
3. Exposed Blood
This also shows how far this virus truly has spread everywhere on land and now even Atlantis! The only survivor is Mera. Let us hope she will survive.
Art
Overall the art has been incredible the way Trevor Hairsine, Rain Beredo, and Stefano Gaudiano in captures the overall theme of DCEASED giving us no hope for humanity. The composition of each panel is truly mesmerized and easy to follow. The color matches the mood for each story it follows sometimes that can fell inconsistent but for DCEASED #3, it works really well.
The Variety covers for DCEASED are always incredible from the IT inspired to Nightmare on Elm Street. All of the artist that are involved with the Variant covers keep up the good work because at this moment I am in love.
Overall Thoughts
DC Comics have been killing it this year! From DCEASED, Batman Last Knight on Earth, Martian Manhunter, Young Justice and so much more!
