Deadpool Creator Rob Liefeld Recalls How LionsGate Didn’t Have Faith in Superhero Movies

Lionsgate is producing the upcoming Hellboy film that is being released in April of 2019. It will be it’s first foray into the comicbook genre since they released Punisher War Zone back in 2008. That film unfortunately didn’t fare too well at the box office and it might have made them a little gun shy.

Rob Liefeld, creator of Deadpool, has seen first hand how comicbook inspired movies can be a money maker and inspire more money…I mean sequels. In fact, Liefeld had suggested to Lionsgate that they needed to get back into the comicbook movie game a number of years ago. He explained in a recent tweet:

Honestly, told all the guys at Lionsgate that they needed to be in the comic book super hero biz years back. They gave me all sorts of data as to how that was going to fade….hmmm. How’s that worked out? Never too late friends.

Why Liefeld brought this topic up is unknown but if Hellboy goes as planned, Lionsgate might find itself right in the midst of the money making superhero genre. Do you think Superhero movies will fade as Kingsgate seemed to believe or will it continue to be a solid cash cow for studios and entertainment for the fans?
