“There’s no man on Earth more convinced that he knows what makes Batman tick than Dr. Hugo Strange! Which makes him a natural target for the thing that’s hunting Batman, unless Batman gets there first!” – DC Comics
There really isn’t much to this issue. In the first half, we get Batman and one of Batman’s teacher, Thaddeus. Thaddeus doesn’t really do much but make Batman look like a badass, which everybody already knows. I will say this, I very much enjoy seeing Batman figuring out how to get out of a situation that seems impossible at first.
The second half is where it started to grow weak for me. There is some cool action where he is fighting an enemy that is using Batman weaknesses but is still easily defeated and at the same time, Batman finds the mastermind behind all of this almost instantly. There was no struggle in the second half of this issue of Detective Comics #997, which is the main issue for me.
Jaime Mendoza, Doug Mahnke and the rest of the time did a great job with the art. This is one thing that will never disappoint me. Everyone, that does art for Dc creates its own atmosphere that either helps boost the story or overpowers it and in this instance, it overpowers it in the second half.
The first half seeing Batman with his old teacher Thaddeus made it feel nostalgic and love seeing Batman find a way out of an impossible situation like always but that is where it ends for me the second half of the Detective Comics #997 ended too quickly. I suggest you wait until it is on sale or as a birthday gift.
Also, if you like my reviews let me now and if you do not, tell me what I should do differently.
