Diane Nelson Deletes Twitter Due to Online Harassment Over Joker Comments

In a recent development of fans taking things too far, former DC Entertainment president Diane Nelson has deleted her Twitter account due to a bombardment of comments by “fans”. With the recent Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker pictures emerging, the feedback is mostly positive. Phoenix’s look has been compared to a mixture of Cesar Romero and Heath Ledger’s renditions of one of the most well-known comic book villains. Nelson was particularly in support of this look, initially posting the following:

“LOVE IT! Great story, great actor, specific and strong vision from a talented director. What DC should have been doing since Nolan. Even if die hard fans struggle with his vision.”

There’s a great big deal of fans who are such in support of Zack Snyder that any criticism or perceived criticism causes overreaction. Zack Snyder is a talented director, but every artist has a few bad eggs and it’s okay to admit when you don’t think someone hit the mark or point out where there could have done better. In response to the onslaught of negative comments, Nelson responded:

“I happen to count Zack Snyder among those things, if you are insinuating otherwise. No snake here.”

Nelson went from blocking people, to deleting her account entirely. When will the assault of “fans” that cause celebrities to have to leave social media due to harassment end? You can fully support Zack Snyder without putting other people down for their opinions.

Either way, Phoenix’s Joker is generating excitement that unfortunately, Jared Leto’s Joker wasn’t. Now, that isn’t an insult. I literally co-wrote an article defending Leto’s Joker. And the truth is, Phoenix is getting some naysayers just like Leto and even Heath Ledger got. You can’t please everyone.
