If you have not seen Captain Marvel yet, I suggest turning around to avoid spoilers!
Captain Marvel features the first on-screen iteration of Skrulls in the MCU and apparently, Marvel’s first female-led superhero movie is setting the stage for the Secret Invasion storyline. It features the race the Skrulls invading Earth in order to conquer, with even some major beloved characters having had been Skrulls the whole time. There’s even some versions of the stories where members of the Avengers are forced to fight themselves and left unable to trust others – even themselves.
For those walking into Captain Marvel expecting the Skrulls to be this primary force of evil, we all were a bit shocked to find out the main Skrull Talos simply was looking for a way to shelter his family against the Kree – specifically Ronan’s strong hand against them. When asked about the Secret Invasion and if that was possible now that Captain Marvel set this up, Kevin Feige explained:
“Just like not all humans are bad, and not all humans are good, I think Skrulls probably have a variety of moralities amongst them,” Feige told ComicBook.com, “When they can do what they can do, it probably gets very tempting. So, it’s fun to have introduced this concept and see where it goes.”
Since Captain Marvel took place in the 90s and it’s present day, it’s possible for a rogue Skrull or two to have invaded and infiltrated Earth, so it could be possible for us to find out later that a character that has been with us for a while was, in reality; a Skrull. What do you think?
Captain Marvel is officially out in theaters – make sure you see it![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
