This does not include Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker.
The fact is, the studio has dominated the box office for most of the year. It was lead by Disney’s biggest earner Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Endgame. End Game in fact became the highest-grossing movie of all time with $2.798 billion. It is followed by The Lion King, which earned $1.656 billion globally. Marvel chimed again with their 2019 release, Captain Marvel which earned $1.130 billion. Disney’s Pixar’s Studio brought us Toy Story 4 which earned $1.074 billion. While Disney’s live-action remake Aladdin earned just over the billion mark with $1.051 billion.
If that wasn’t enough, Frozen 2 is still dominating the box office and is expected to cross $1 billion next weekend. That means that Disney will have had 6 films to cross the billion dollar mark. With Star Wars still in the hopper, Disney will likely end the year with seven films that reached that plateau. Whether you like Disney or not, that is impressive.
That’s not to say that other studios are not having success. WB’s Joker is still amassing money at the Box Office. In addition. Sony’s SpiderMan Far from Home also pulled in a billion. There’s definitely money to share…it’s just that Disney is getting the majority of it.
Do you think it is possible for another Studio to equal or surpass the monetary standards that Disney has set this year? Can Disney hope to compete with itself after setting the bar so high? Share your financial expertise with us at GeekVibesNation.
