Disney’s Live-Action ‘Peter Pan’ May Have Just Found Its Captain Hook

A famous face is looking to make a trip to Neverland in Disney’s latest planned live-action adaptation. Variety reports that Jude Law may be the next person to portray the iconic Captain Hook in the upcoming Peter Pan & Wendy. The film is set to be helmed by director David Lowery from a script he co-wrote with Toby Halbrooks. Lowery previously directed the live-action Pete’s Dragon, but also has a foot in the independent world with interesting films such as A Ghost Story and The Old Man and The Gun. Let’s hope that some of his indie sensibility is able to come through to keep this newest attempt fresh.

Law has most recently been seen in the underrated spy thriller, The Rhythm Section, as well as the acclaimed HBO comedy-drama The New Pope. In addition to this potential role as Captain Hook, Law has the indie drama The Nest out later this year, as well as new installments in the Sherlock Holmes and Fantastic Beasts franchises. The oft-portrayed Captain Hook has previously been inhabited in live-action form by actors such as Dustin Hoffman, Jason Isaacs and Garrett Hedlund.

While recent attempts at revitalizing the Peter Pan story have mostly failed from other studios, Disney hopes to tap into the magic present in their beloved 1953 animated classic. Those who are hoping to catch this one on Disney+ will have to wait a bit longer, as the current plan is for this to be a theatrical release.
