Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall Reveal Paramount Forced Them to Cast a White Actor in Coming to America

Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall’s Coming 2 America will be hitting Amazon Prime soon. In a recent Jimmy Kimmel Live! show, Murphy and Hall joined to promote the sequel to the original 1988 movie. The two revealed that Paramount Pictures had forced the two to put a white actor in the original movie. That was Louie Anderson, who played Maurice in the film.

Hall explained:

“I love Louie, but I think we were forced to put Louie in it. We were forced to put in a white person.”

Murphy added:

“They were like, ‘There has to be a white person in the movie.’ I was like, ‘What?’ So who was the funniest white guy around? We knew Louie was cool, so that’s how Louie got in the movie.”

Hall also added that Paramount had given them a list of white actors to choose from:

“It was official. I had a list. They gave me a list with three white guys. They said, ‘Who would you rather work with?’ I said, ‘Louie.’”

Anderson returns for the sequel, which will hit Amazon Prime on March 5th.
