Needless to say, it’s been some time. However, reports earlier this year were saying that the long awaited return of Obi Wan Kenobi could be coming soon, as Disney and Lucasfilm were planning to make an Obi Wan Kenobi Star Wars film.
But it looks like that bubble has indeed popped. Ewan McGregor recently said “There’s no such plans to do it, as far as I know.” However, it’s worth noting that McGregor has continuously offered his services to reprise his role as the Jedi Master saying “I would totally do it, yes.” Although he does concede that there may be plans for an Obi Wan film, with him just not playing Obi Wan, saying “There must be a good story to tell as they’re doing spinoffs- there’s likely to be a good Obi Wan between me and Alec Guinness.”
The last time we saw Obi Wan was in Revenge of the Sith. And we know following the events of that movie that Obi Wan went to Tatooine to, not only hide from Vader and the Galactic Empire, but also to keep an eye on Luke Skywalker. The big reasoning for an Obi Wan standalone film is to explore what happens in those years between Kenobi’s arrival on Tatooine to him saving Luke from the Tuskan Raiders. Now, fans of the prequels would have never thought they would see an Obi Wan standalone film, but after Disney bought Lucasfilm in 2012, there have been 2 standalones (Rogue One and Solo). The rumors for standalone films were getting so instense that Lucasfilm had to release a statement saying that there were no standalone films currently in production, meaning we won’t be getting that Boba Fett, Mace Windu, Yoda, or Obi Wan film anytime soon.
Are you okay with no more standalone films for the foreseeable future? Or would you prefer to see McGregor reprise his role as Obi Wan in his own film? Let us know in the comments below![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
A few of my favorite things include my pet dragon (Drogon), Game of Thrones, Disney movies and theme parks, the MCU, DC movies, Star Wars, sports, and my rather large Funko Pop collection. Daenerys Targaryen is my queen, Robert Downey Jr is my man crush, and Simba is my spirit animal.
