In “HELLHOUNDS,” Nathaniel Burns embodies Alias, a character driven by a relentless quest for revenge. As the film unfolds, Alias finds himself entangled in a captivating and chilling tale that transcends traditional horror boundaries. With a blend of low-budget aesthetics and a gripping narrative, “HELLHOUNDS” promises audiences a thrilling, popcorn-movie experience. As we await its release, Burns hints at the excitement and dedication that went into creating this unique cinematic venture.
In the mysterious realm of Robert Conway’s mind, the genesis of “HELLHOUNDS” takes root, as we delve into an exclusive interview with the film’s star, Nathaniel Burns. A seasoned actor and director, Burns shares insights into his experiences working on the thrilling project, shedding light on the challenges and memorable moments that defined the journey.
Q: How did Hellhounds come about, Nathaniel?
Nathaniel Burns: The mind of Robert Conway is a mysterious place. But I would say it started there.
Q: Did you sit down to watch similar films or films with similar characters in the lead up to doing the film?
Nathaniel Burns: My process as an actor includes reading scripts, watching a lot of movies, and reading and watching plays. Since working on “Eminence Hill” and “Skinwalker,” that has meant more Westerns for sure. Alias is on a mission for revenge, a well-used concept, but I wouldn’t say he or Hellhounds are based on anybody or anything else.
Q: Is it hard to work in films with special effects and make-up?
Nathaniel Burns: I don’t find it difficult to work on films with special effects and makeup. Extensive makeup does present unique challenges to time and budget. For instance, in a film I produced, a character needed waterproof tattoo coverage, and the HMUA needed hours due to the amount of tattoos she had. This cut into shooting time, and time is money.
Q: I imagine it’s hard not to play too ‘over the top’ in films like this?
Nathaniel Burns: Every actor and director must be aware of the genre that their project is in. “HELLHOUNDS” is a fun, “popcorn movie,” a low-budget horror with a cool story. It’s not Hollywood, nor is it trying to be. I’m proud of everyone’s performance in Hellhounds, and I think our talented cast hit their marks and performances quite solidly.
Q: What are some of your fondest memories from the shoot?
Nathaniel Burns: Some of my fondest memories were during crowd days when extras and real Arizona bikers showed up to make the movie happen. The energy was something special. Also, being able to make movies and ride my motorcycle simultaneously was phenomenal.
Q: What are you working on now?
Nathaniel Burns: Robert and I have two titles in post-production, “Buried Alive” and “Blood Totem.” Stay tuned; they’re looking very cool. I continue to work on my YouTube channel, learning more about cameras, video editing, stunt training, and fight choreography. All in preparation for my upcoming feature-length directorial debut—I wouldn’t mind a bump in the budget; would love to see what we could do with a few million.
