Amazon Prime’s Fallout series stars Ella Purnell, Aaron Moten, and Walton Goggins. Premiering April 11th, it’s based on the popular video game series of the same name by the company Bethesda. Fallout is beloved by many and while it’s always risky adapting something popular (whether that’s comic books or video games), I believe fans will enjoy the upcoming show.
In a press junket, I had the opportunity to sit down with a few of the actors and showrunners for the series. This includes two of the series leads, Ella Purnell, who plays Lucy; and Aaron Moten, who plays Maximus. Below is a brief transcription of my interview with Purnell and Moten; check it out to learn more about these amazing characters!
Tia:
My first question is for Ella. Lucy has gone on a journey this season. What is your favorite part about playing her?
Ella:
Oh, my favorite part is probably her positivity in the face of insanity. You know, she’s just surrounded by the craziest situations and it’s terrifying and bonkers and she just, you know, she just grins and bears it, puts one foot in front of the other and gets on with it.
Tia:
It is nice following her trying to navigate this crazy wasteland. And I mean, Aaron, your character Maximus is very complex in my mind, just between his dedication, his loyalty, he wants to be one or the other. It’s just, he’s going through a lot. How do you tackle a character like that?
Aaron:
Oh boy, you know, it’s certainly, gosh, and it’s also, it is a joy, because it’s quite the challenge and joy at the same time. But it is, it’s about navigating things. I’m really careful, I guess, when working on Maximus about what words or adjectives I put to things in my head, because I think it is, I don’t want to oversimplify things too much for him, because it’s discovery as well, to a certain degree. you know, we’ve made this like kind of a bit of a diorama of like what’s the noble choice in a situation and what’s a more glorious choice, you know, like what’s going to help you rise in the ranks and what’s going to help you in like the immediate future and maybe, you know, is it noble to make the choice to survive or is that a glorious pursuit, you know what I mean? And also trying to create a character that was born and raised in the wasteland. You know what I mean? It’s like his moral compass is just tilted in a different direction than ours would be in the days that we live in, you know, in our world. So I think that’s how we go about it, is really also having a wonderful time with balancing the characters off each other and how, you know, we take things from each other at certain points. And really, you know, I’m looking at Ella and I’m wanting to laugh because sometimes I just want to choose the 180 opposite of what I think that Lucy would believe of something because I think it’s just wonderful to have the characters in opposition from each other.
