Filming in Georgia Will Become Difficult if Abortion Ban Goes Into Effect According to Disney CEO

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”23168″ img_size=”800×514″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]Georgia has been a hot spot for filming television shows and movies and even Marvel hits like Black Panther and Avengers: Endgame has been filmed there, but if the new abortion ban goes into effect it may make filming difficult, according to Walt Disney Co-Chief Executive Bob Iger. If you’ve been watching the news, you will know that the governor of Georgia has signed a ban on abortion as early as six weeks of a woman’s pregnancy on May 7and if the law survives any court challenges, it will go into effect on January 1st.

In regards to filming in Georgia, Iger expressed:

“I rather doubt we will. I think many people who work for us will not want to work there, and we will have to heed their wishes in that regard. Right now we are watching it very carefully.”

He continued:

“I don’t see how it’s practical for us to continue to shoot there.”

This isn’t a surprise considering how divisive this topic has been, but it wouldn’t be a good outcome for the film industry considering it is responsible for more than over 92,000 jobs in the U.S. State – according to the MPAA. In 2018, about 455 productions were shot in Georgia. While a lot of large production companies have remained tight-lipped on this subject, there have been actors and producers who have expressed that they will no longer work in the U.S. if this law goes into effect. Netflix is continuing production there and is working with groups that are fighting the ban in the U.S. courts.
